Julia Aitken – Freelance Canadian Writer and Editor

I hired Ken as a Search Engine Optimization expert and he very patiently took all the mystery out of SEO, turning my website from a good one to a great one. Have been meaning to drop a line to let you know how successful your SEO work was. A couple of months ago I received an email via the website from a publisher in the UK who’d been searching the Net for a North American-based cookbook editor to help out on a project. Thanks to all your hard work, he found me! I so appreciate what you did.  Julia Aitken, Writer & Editor

Julia Aitken is a well known Canadian freelance writer, editor and author of several cookbooks. Her writing is widely published in LCBO’s popular Food & Drink Magazine where she is a regular contributor. Julia is also a ghostwriter and journalist -skills that she  wishes to let the world know about through her new website: www.juliaaitken.com

The website is a clean, easily navigated WordPress site designed by Cinch Graphic & Web Design in Kingston, Ontario. The designer, Steven Sheffield contacted us for some extra SEO work on the site because Julia wanted to ensure her site ranked well with search engines. WordPress is a good platform for building a website because it is naturally ‘search engine friendly’. The various plug-ins available allow for easier SEO implementation when blogging. Julia can regularly update the site herself with the easy to understand WordPress dashboard.

Working directly with Julia we talked about the skills she wishes to highlight. We performed a keyword analysis looking for suitable keyword phrases. The entire site was optimized including many new headings and alt tags plus very descriptive meta-titles. Lastly, we started building inbound links to improve the ‘importance’ of the site.

Before SEO, we could not find Julia’s site in a Google search for ‘freelance food writer’ within the first 5 pages. Today, Julia ranks at least on the first page and often in the #1 position depending upon the exact search phrase. As Julia continues to expand her blog  the site’s rankings will be maintained.
