SEO methodology

SEO can be simplified by dividing the process into two key areas: optimizing your website pages and building inbound links. It is always best to incorporate SEO best practices during the initial development and construction of a website.  This way your site can be built with SEO in mind. Many great website designers unfortunately do not understand SEO.  A website may look and work great but search engines don’t rank it well-  a common problem.  If this describes your website don’t despair!  We can make adjustments that will help your site climb up the rankings!

Many times we will work on an older websites that  need some adjustments to achieve better rankings. Many small businesses have already made a big investment in a website and do not want to start from scratch all over again.  Rather than develop a new site your current site may be reworked in some areas to provide better results.

Website Analysis

Our first step is to analyze your website and determine its strengths and weaknesses.  How your site is built has a great deal to do with how its ranked with Google, Bing and Yahoo! Whether or not your meta-titles, descriptions and keywords are in place and relevant are important. How your web designer created your site is also important: is it a Flash site, Html or WordPress site?  Does your site use a splash page?  How effective is your homepage telling visitors who you are and what you do?  These are only a few of the questions when we examine your site.

Keyword Analysis

A Keyword Analysis follows the overall analysis.  Looking at your site we determine how your website was designed around certain key phrases. We look at your competitor’s sites and see how they rank with similar keyword phrases.  Working with you we perform a keyword analysis to determine what your visitors are searching for and perhaps more importantly what your competitor’s visitors are using for search terms. This analysis will determine an approximate volume of visitors that may view your site on a monthly basis and form our goal; to increase website traffic.  Strategic use of these carefully chosen keyword phrases will be critical to optimizing your site.

Optimizing Your Pages

Based on the analysis of your site and your keyword analysis we begin working on site adjustments.  We work closely with you so the message of  your website is not changed.  Sometimes your message has to be massaged in a way for search engines to notice it, better. Title tags, heading tags, alt tags and descriptors add to how the site is indexed.  Once the site is optimized you will notice almost instantaneous results.

Tracking Your Progress

Tracking your success in search engine rankings is next. By embedding a unique Google Analytics tracking code into your webpages you will gain insightful information that you can access anywhere. Determine your daily site visits, the country and city of origin, the number of minutes a viewer stays on your site and even the keywords they used to find you. You can even determine which websites link to you and how many referral visits came from linked sites. This powerful tool is free and is an integral part to any marketing campaign.

Building Inbound Links

Inbound links are links from other websites to your website.  Think of inbound links as ‘likes’ on Facebook.  If many sites link to your site you must be important (in the ‘mind’ of Google). Building inbound links is the next approach after your site is optimized.  There are a many strategies to help accomplish this and much of it can be done yourself to save money.
